Darin Balaam is the 27^th person elected to serve as Sheriff of Washoe County, taking the oath of office on January 7, 2019.

Sheriff Balaam’s career includes over 21 years at the Sheriff’s Office, where he’s held every rank from Deputy Sheriff to Assistant Sheriff. His experience encompasses all three bureaus: Operations, Detention and Administration.

Sheriff Balaam is committed to attacking the opioid crisis, combatting sex trafficking in our community, and continuing to enhance mental health services for inmates. A proponent of community policing, Balaam is dedicated to proactively addressing the root cause(s) of crime.
