Lessons from COVID: What the pandemic has taught us about the future of higher education

Dr. Karin Hilgersom serves as the president of Truckee Meadows Community College. She previously served as the president of SUNY Sullivan in Loch Sheldrake, NY. Prior to that, she served as executive vice president for Walla Walla Community College and for Central Oregon Community College, both located in the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Hilgersom earned her doctorate in Educational Policy and Management, and her Masters in Rhetoric and Communication at the University of Oregon. She began her community college career as a faculty member in 1986, including full-time faculty and chair experience at Spokane Community College in the Communication Studies department prior to becoming the dean of Arts and Sciences.

The community college mission has been Dr. Hilgersom’s lifelong passion and she has presented on success stories related to this work at many conferences spanning 30 years.  Since arriving at TMCC in June 2016, Dr. Hilgersom has also joined the Board of Directors of Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN), KNPB Channel 5 Public Broadcasting (PBS), and the United Nevada Industries (iCelerate/HSI).
