John Flansberg was appointed as the City’s first Regional Infrastructure Administrator in July 2022. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, passed by Congress in 2021, is a national investment to improve roads, bridges, transit, rail, ports, airports, broadband, and drinking water and wastewater infrastructure over the next five years. This new role leverages Flansberg’s 30+ years of experience and knowledge of local and regional infrastructure to ensure the City is focused on and actively competes for state and federal funding opportunities with an initial emphasis on regional water projects.

Flansberg served as Director of Public Works since 2009 and began working for the City of Reno as the Deputy Director of Public Works over Maintenance and Operations in 2005.  John received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University. He is a State of Nevada Registered Professional Engineer (Civil) and a member of the American Public Works Association. He also serves on the University of Nevada, Reno Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Advisory Board.
