Rotary Club of Reno International Committee - Purpose and Goals
Rotary International says, “We are neighbors, community leaders and global citizens uniting for the common good and taking on some of the world’s most pressing challenges.”
Our club's International Services Committee assists the club in developing programs that promote understanding and good will among Rotarians and among peoples throughout the world. The Rotarian motto, “Service Above Self,” conveys the humanitarian spirit of the organization’s more that 1.2 million members.  International service projects promote strong fellowship among Rotarians worldwide while helping the poorest of the poor.
Committee members identify potential projects by attending a Rotary Project Fair typically offered annually in Ghana, Uganda, England, Ecuador, Colombia, Belize, and Peru, as well as by receipt of requests for project support from other clubs, individuals, and organizations.
International Committee Goals 2018-19
Projects developed internally in our club or the International Committee will have higher priority than requests for funds that come from outside the club.
The committee will focus on three Rotary Areas:
  • fighting disease
  • saving mothers and children
  • providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
Projects that fall in other Areas of Focus will be considered, but will not have as high a priority. These include:
  • promoting peace
  • supporting education
  • growing local economies

Start-ups will receive higher priority, as well as projects that have a larger impact.
The committee will seek to leverage club funds by partnering with other clubs & organizations to increase the impact of our funds, including hands-on involvement by Club members.
The committee will
• Advocate for maximum use of district level “share” allocations to current projects.
• Serve as mentor to smaller clubs in District 5190 interested in global grants.
• Take into consideration project sustainability and local involvement.
