Elliott Parker

Elliott Parker grew up an Air Force brat who earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Systems Analysis from the University of Texas–Arlington in 1983. After adding a master’s and PhD from the University of Washington, he came to Nevada to become a professor of economics at the University of Nevada–Reno. He has published several dozen articles in academic journals and is still working on increasing that number. He’s also authored dozens of op-eds in a variety of Nevada newspapers and periodicals.

Prof. Parker is currently Chair of the UNR Economics Department, and has also served as Associate Dean, University Director of the Core Curriculum, Chair of the Faculty Senate, and co-editor of the China Economic Review. He teaches international and comparative economics, and wrote a textbook a few years ago on the comparative economics of growth and inequality. Before that, he co-authored a book on Nevada’s Great Recession with his wife, Kate Marshall, Nevada’s former State Treasurer and Lieutenant Governor.
