The International Baccalaureate® (IB) was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968 as a non-profit educational foundation.  International Schools got together to create the program intended to help internationally mobile students prepare for university through internationally standardized courses and assessments.  The IB currently works with over 4,537 schools in more than 160 countries to offer IB programs to approximately 1,300,000 students.

The IB program started at Wooster during the 1996-97 school year. In the last six years, four IB graduates have been accepted into the University of Nevada’s prestigious BS to MD Program and five IB graduates have been accepted to Stanford University.  Every year, Wooster’s IB graduates are accepted into the best universities in America.  IB graduates have gone on to be doctors, professor, attorneys, engineers, pilots, Broadway actors, professional musicians, entrepreneurs, and variety of other professional accomplishments.

Ray Swigart is a multi-generation Nevada native and a graduate of Sparks High School and the University of Nevada.  He is a veteran of the United States Air Force, Nevada Air National Guard, and the Nevada Army Guard.  Ray worked as an Internal Auditor for Promus Corporation which owned Harrah’s Club.  He started teaching at Wooster in August 1998 and has served as a teacher, an IB teacher, Department Chair, Student Government Advisor, coached Academic Olympics, and was advisor numerous other clubs and activities. Teaching is not just his profession - it is his passion.
