Randy was born in Boise, Idaho, graduated from Monrovia High School and received a BA in accounting and economics from the College of Idaho.  He married Christine (Chris) in June of 1971 while working in the Los Angeles office of an international CPA firm; he then took a position as the CFO for a chain of furniture stores followed by CFO for a chain of department stores. He purchased a small tax practice in Bishop, California in November of 1984.

Randy joined the Rotary Club of Bishop in 1987. He served the Club in a variety of positions serving as President at turn of the century (2000-2001). He became involved at the District level when District 5260 was dissolved and the two Bishop and two Mammoth Lakes Clubs became part of District 5190.
